The website PandoDaily recently published an article on how eBay founder Pierre Omidyar funded anti-government groups in Ukraine that played a part in the downfall of President Viktor Yanukovych.

In the article, it was said that it was not only anti-government groups that Omidyar funded, but also First Look Media, a media company, to which he gave over $250 million.

"What all this adds up to is a journalistic conflict-of-interest of the worst kind: Omidyar working hand-in-glove with U.S. foreign policy agencies to interfere in foreign governments, co-financing regime change with well-known arms of the American empire — while at the same time hiring a growing team of soi-disant 'independent journalists' which vows to investigate the behavior of the US government at home and overseas, and boasts of its uniquely 'adversarial' relationship toward these government institutions,” stated the article.

PandoDaily writer, Mark Ames also said that Omidyar also paid his writers to keep silent about the issue, including the dubious actions he has been committing.

Omidyar’s camp, through Glenn Greenwald, has stated that Omidyar has been clear in his funding, saying that all these have been disclosed in a press release in his website.

Greenwald added that the funding did not matter because it will not change the way the stories are made anyway.

It is not new that major media companies are funded by big corporations and people. There is a history of this happening, especially in the United States of America.
