Mother of a child vaccinated with Dengvaxia asks Garin: "Nakakatulog pa ba kayo sa gabi?”

The 3.5 billion peso purchase of Dengvaxia that was distributed in national scale to several schools and has been injected some 830,000 Filipino children is currently under investigation due to the possibility that because of government negligence and alleged corruption, many Filipino children would be subjected to possible fatal side effects.

The said purchase and distribution was overseen by then health secretary Garin. The said purchase is currently undergoing a senate probe.

Iris Alpay, a mother of a child who was vaccinated with the drug, said: “Gusto ko pong tanungin si Secretary Garin kung nakakatulog pa ba kayo sa gabi? Kasi kami hindi na.”

She pointed out how disappointed she was on how her child could have been possibly harmed by the very agency that was supposed to promote their welfare.

"Ako po ay sobrang na-disappoint dahil mismong ahensya nyo ang nagpahamak sa aking anak,” she said.

However, it should be noted that the current health secretary of the DOH, Francisco Duque, said that Alpay’s child is not experiencing the health problems of an individual who is suffering the side effects of the vaccine.

The health secretary then reassured that the government is looking into the issue, and make sure that they will provide assistance to affected individuals.

Gusto ko rin hingin sa present DOH kung anong tulong ang pwede nyo magawa para mabawasan ang aming takot at kaba,” Alpay said.

She further added: "ne-expect ko po na magkaroon talaga ng information campaign ang gobyerno.”

Garin was not able to respond because the Senate blue ribbon committee chaired by Senator Richard Gordon has not allowed her.
